The Story of Marchez Vous
I launched Marchez Vous three years ago because I was in the market for a gorgeous pair of shoes that was comfortable enough to carry me through my insanely busy day — and I didn’t have any. I also had no formal design experience and no idea how to make shoes. But I knew I could figure it out as long as I stuck to what I was good at: finding the smartest, like-minded people who share my motto, “Screw it, let’s do it!” and convincing them to take the journey with me. And with that I became a shoe designer and CEO.
Three years in, I’ve learned a great deal. First and foremost, that shoes are one of the most difficult accessories to make! But they are also the most exquisite. I’ve learned to be nimble and that I’ll always wish I had more time to develop my designs. Also, tanneries are not for the faint of heart; business plans are good, but ongoing analysis is better; and an enthusiastic, engaged team is the heart and soul of any company so let them know that they are valued.
In five years, I want Marchez Vous to be as ubiquitous as Manolo, Prada, and Charlotte Olympia. I want the company to be giving back to the world in ways that offer people a hand up, instead of a hand out. And while our shoes will continue to be made in Italy, I also want to have a line of Marchez Vous that’s 100% made in America. To me, the importance and appeal of such an initiative is obvious.
We dream big here at Marchez Vous, but I believe it’s all wonderfully achievable. And on the days when everyone is working their tail off and it seems like the needle is hardly moving at all, I say to my team, it’s not for us to know exactly how the dream will come true – just that it will. Because our job is the same: turn over every stone, engage every opportunity, and have as much fun as possible doing it. That way, no matter what happens, we’ll never feel like we wasted our time. We’ll only wonder what can we do next?!
